LEPOCO is moving again!

Rosemont Lutheran Church, the current location of LEPOCO’s office spaces, has merged with four other churches and is now Blessed Trinity Lutheran Church at Rosemont.  The new, larger congregation and the many outreach programs that the church offers require a lot of space. To meet the need, the church has asked LEPOCO to vacate the rooms we occupy by April 30, 2024.  LEPOCO will be hard-pressed to meet this deadline; our experience tells us that we need considerable time to find a suitable and affordable space and to complete the move.

  • Immediate need: People who are willing to participate in planning for the move.
  • Need, closer to moving date:  Help packing and moving the office.

Donations of time, money, and ideas, are all very valuable, throughout the processes that are ahead of us.

We appreciate any time and/or resources you can offer, to help us move.
Please call the LEPOCO office at 610-691-8730.

(Please do not hesitate to spread the word far and wide.)

LEPOCO’s Stop the Wars Committee has chosen to extend LEPOCO’s Monthly Vigils for Peace, to be held on a weekly basis; calling for a ceasefire in Israel and Palestine, the release of all hostages and prisoners, and the distribution of humanitarian aid to all who are suffering in the war-torn regions.

The vigils will take place at the corner of Third and Wyandotte Streets in south Bethlehem, from 4 to 5 p.m., every Thursday, for the foreseeable future.  Anyone who wants to stand with LEPOCO is invited to participate.  Signs will be available, but please feel free to make and bring your own.

Please call the LEPOCO office, 610-691-8730, to make sure that there will be a vigil on the day that you hope to attend.

LEPOCO HAS T-SHIRTS!

LEPOCO has a beautiful new t-shirt for sale, designed by Amanda Zaniesienko, featuring a sunflower surrounding the LEPOCO doves logo.  (The sunflower has become the symbol of a world free of nuclear weapons.  This came about after an extraordinary celebration of Ukraine achieving the status of a nuclear free state in the 1990s.)

LEPOCO’s statement on Ukraine

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia must be stopped.  The Lehigh-Pocono Committee of Concern (LEPOCO) envisions a world free from war, violence, and injustice.  To that end, we oppose all wars.

We are alarmed about the war in Ukraine – the brazenness of the Russian invasion, the mounting killings of civilians of all ages, the destruction of homes, schools, human infrastructure, the threats about nuclear weapons and nuclear power.

Negotiations leading to a ceasefire must be the priority of the United Nations, our government, and all who oppose the assault on Ukraine.

We urge the federal government to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine, those who are continuing to live in their homeland and those who have been forced to flee the horrors of war.

LEPOCO is committed to nonviolent action; we support the people of Russia who brave severe punishment by their public protest of their government’s actions.

– Statement adopted by the LEPOCO Action Meeting of March 14, 2022
